Nicholas (Nick) Auton FCCA – Director

Nick joined the practice in 1998 after qualifying at a local practice in Hull.  In 2002 he became a partner of Finnies with his father Michael Auton and the business continued to develop during this period.  Mike retired from the practice in 2006 and now acts as a consultant to the firm.

Nick has a wide range of experiences which he has acquired during his accounting career.  In addition to the normal audit, accountancy and taxation services, he is regularly involved with the full spectrum of commercial advice including; business start ups, forecasting, acquisitions and disposals and more recently he has been involved in a multi million pound compensation claim.

Neil Tomlin BA(Hons) FCCA – Director

Neil trained with a small York based accountancy firm and qualified in 2001.  He joined Finnies in April 2008 as Practice Manager and became a Director in May 2009.

Neil has a wide knowledge of all aspects of accounting and taxation matters, with the added bonus of a high degree of knowledge of the IT aspects in relation to accounting packages.

Neil has a lot of experience in the Business Start-up sector, which is of keen interest to him as he finds it very rewarding to see a firm succeed.  He also enjoys helping businesses of all sizes to progress to meet their goals.

Neil’s first task at Finnies was the design and implementation of this website.

Michael (Mike) Auton FCA – Consultant

Mike acted as a general practitioner for over 30 years and retired as a partner of Finnies in 2006. He now acts as a consultant both to the firm and other clients,which gives the firm the chance to use his vast knowledge and experience to meet the requirements of our clients.

Jonathan Parkin ACCA – Office Manager

Jonathan has joined us from a firm of accountants based in York. His role within the organisation is to take control of the office procedures and responsibility for the day to day running of the office and the team reporting direct to Nick and Neil.

Jonathan has a wide knowledge of Accountancy, Taxation and Payroll. As well as his accounting background, Jonathan also has a high degree of knowledge on all the leading accounting packages such as Sage and QuickBooks and is always keen to advise clients on better ways to use the packages.

Deborah (Debbie) Jude FCCA – Audit Manager

Debbie joined Finnies after completing her A levels in 1996 and following successful completion of her AAT, qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2002.

Debbie’s role within the office is varied covering all aspects of accounting, auditing, book-keeping, payroll and forecasting. 

She also spends a significant amount of time at the clients’ premises, assisting them with their day-to-day accounting requirements

Helen Spence FCCA - Accounts Manager

Helen joined the firm as an employee in January 2009 after coming to us on a temporary contract.  Helen trained in a medium sized practice in Leeds were she developed a high knowledge of accountancy and audit procedures.  One of Helen’s first tasks is to develop the skills of our part qualified staff and help them with their training needs. 

Helen also has a high degree of knowledge in relation to the market leading accounting software such as Sage and is always keen to answer questions in this field.

Louise Smith – Accounts

Louise joined Finnies after completing her A Levels in 2003 and passed her final ACCA exams in August 2009.

Her role within the office is mainly that of accounts preparation and audit field work which is carried out under the supervision of the relevant director of the company.

Jonathan Cawood BSC (Hons) – Part-Qualified Accountant

Jonathan has a degree in Accounting and joined the firm in 2006 and is currently studying towards his ACCA Qualification.

His main role within the office is accounts preparation.  He also assists in other services offered by the firm.

Marie Martin – Accounts

Marie is in the process of finalising her AAT qualifications with a view to further studies in the future.

Her main role within the firm is accounts preparation and will be entering into new fields as she becomes more experienced.

Jack Burn-de Vries BSC (Hons) – Graduate Trainee Accountant

Jack joined the firm in September 2009 and is studying towards his ACCA exams.

His main role within the office is accounts preparation. He is looking to expand into new fields as he becomes more experienced.

Lorraine Barwick – Payroll/VAT

Lorraine joined Finnies in 1995 and prepares payroll and VAT returns for clients, together with advising clients on these specialised areas.

All staff have knowledge of Sage payroll and accounts packages.

The Admin Team

Sue Porter

Sue has been with the firm for over 20 years providing secretarial and admin support to all the team. Her length of service means she has good client knowledge and she is often the initial point of contact for clients.

Hannah McNeil

Hannah joined the firm in October 2009 to provide assistance to the administrative team in reception and switchboard duties, and to take the lead role in the move to the 'paperless office'.

Hannah will also be working to expand her knowledge and involvement with payroll and book-keeping work once the paperless office project is complete.

Gail Auton

Gail has been with the firm for over 20 years providing admin support to the directors, however this is now on a part-time basis. She has experience in payroll, VAT and accounts preparation.

Our admin team are very friendly and are always happy to assist in any way they can.
